VENTILATION SYSTEMS
PROJECT TYPE – Insite Training
PARTNERS – TÜV Süd Academy

This training aims to enhance understanding of two distinct types of larger scale ventilation units, one located on the roof of a nightclub and the other positioned in the basement of a large public building. While both systems share similar functionalities, their arrangements differ significantly. The training’s objective is to enable participants to identify these various elements and comprehend their unique functions.

Aim:
To provide the trainee with a comprehensive understanding of both the exterior and interior aspects of large-scale ventilation systems, ensuring they have a reliable reference for identifying the various components involved.
Challenge:
To provide a visual understanding of two distinct system types within a single immersive training experience, as key components of the system are situated in areas that are not reachable with a standard 360° camera. These areas are also characterized by low light, making photography particularly challenging, and the rooftop system presents additional accessibility issues.
Solution:
We aimed to integrate both systems into a single map, depicting them as if they were stacked within the same building. The basement system required just two 360-degree perspectives, while the interior images of the rooftop system were captured using a single shot 360-degree camera mounted on a lit monopod, allowing us to illuminate the area without revealing the light source in the photograph.

Cycled Animation
This was the first time we attempted to capture a cyclical rotation. The challenge was to make equal steps so the motion was smooth without it being too fast or slow. This required a lot of separate photographs which were then sorted until the right spacing was found.

Shooting In-Close
Capturing 360º shots in an enclosed space smaller than a person poses significant challenges; access panels located around the unit needed to be closed prior to taking any shots. To facilitate this, the single shot camera was remotely controlled, allowing for precise operation. One of the standout features of this session was the innovative animation of the fans opening and closing, which required the entire system to be powered on and off strategically.
