Aim:
In most large storage areas, there is typically an individual designated to ensure that safety protocols are followed meticulously. This responsibility encompasses a range of tasks, from properly labeling shelves to monitoring for damage caused by forklift traffic. This immersive training effectively prepares individuals to manage and uphold safety standards within such facilities.
Challenge:
A key aspect of effectively teaching safety issues is to illustrate instances where they are not appropriately addressed. It can be challenging to identify these safety concerns within an operational storage area, yet doing so allows for a clear comparison between proper practices and potential missteps. One notable obstacle is the uniform appearance of the shelving units, which can lead to confusion and disorientation, making it difficult to navigate and mistakenly believing one is in the same spot when actually in a different row. Additionally, being able to gain a higher vantage point is crucial for better visibility and understanding of the overall organization.
Solution:
Our method focused on utilizing the consistent features of the storage facility to pinpoint areas that required attention across the entire space, subsequently reflecting those issues in a designated area for immersive training. For example, when we identified a shelving stand protector on the floor that had been impacted by a forklift, we recreated it near the training start point. We incorporated animation to showcase the operation of the forklift as it loads into high shelving units. Furthermore, we placed the camera on the forklift to capture a top-down perspective of the environment, allowing us to look more closely into the challenges presented by the elevated storage zones.

Instance Items
A significant characteristic of a storage area is the prevalence of repetition, which allows users to encounter the same issue across various locations. Our innovative instancing system empowers users to view multiple examples of the same problem, enhancing their ability to identify and recognize it in diverse situations.
Location
Shooting took place at the furniture store Höffner in Munich. The storage facility is located directly underneath the shop floor on two levels.
Teamwork
Still photography was done by the in-house media expert at TÜV Süd Academy.
What not to do!
Our introduction to the project was to watch the famous viral video "Forklift Driver Klaus" - a parody of a training video where the driver does everything wrong and many people die.
